Mental Health and Connection

At Wild Heart K9, we believe in the healing power of connection - both with our dogs and with each other. This page is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, who was the epitome of kindness, compassion, love, and support.

Honoring My Father, John Marino

This is my Dad, my best friend, my heart. We lost him to suicide and it has been the most heart breaking experience.

I am where I am because of him. Without his creativity, skills, and immense love and support, this business would not exist. Thank you Dad, from the bottom of my heart. I miss you, I love you, I’m sorry.

Mental Health Resources for Dog Owners

Dogs can be a source of tremendous joy and healing, but the responsibility of training and caring for them can also feel overwhelming at times. At Wild Heart K9, we understand the emotional journey that comes with building a relationship with your dog—and we’re here to support you through it.

Here are some ways to care for your mental health as a dog owner:

Find joy in small moments: Celebrate your dog’s progress, no matter how small. Training is about the journey, not the destination.

Take breaks when needed: It’s okay to step back when you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed. Your dog will benefit from your calm and grounded presence.

Seek connection with others: Join our community of dog owners who share their experiences, challenges, and breakthroughs. You’re not in this alone.

Explore animal-assisted therapy: Dogs are natural healers. If you’re feeling down, spending time with your dog can help improve your mood and lower stress levels.

Grounding: Connecting with nature and grounding alongside your dog can be a powerful way to calm your mind and soothe your spirit.

If you or someone you love is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please know that you are not alone. Help is available:

Mental health is so important. People are suffering in silence and don’t always know how to reach out. It is important that we reach in, and quickly. If you or a loved one is struggling, please get help. If you don’t know where to start, message me. You don’t have to do this alone.

Sending my love to all that need it.
